Sustainable youth let action plans for Sri Lankn youth unemployment issues
Youth unemployment has been recognized as a serious problem in Sri Lanka since the
1960's"[l]. In the labour market, youth experience discrimination and inequalities due to
different factors such as class and status, geography and sector, gender, ethnicity and
physical or mental disabilities. According to a recent study from the Ministry of Tertiary
Education and Training "about 73% who had passed out as graduates were
unemployed"! 10], Thus unemployment is a pressing problem in the country even among the
"educated".
Annually, around 150,000 youths enter the labour market: Hence, unless there are realistic
sustainable development programmes, unemployment is bound to increase, exacerbating the
present socio-economic problems in the country

Sustainable youth let action plans for Sri Lankan youth unemployment issue
The main purpose of this research study is that, the future of Sri Lanka is
that it will be a nation where human resource should be utilized at maximum level. For
this to be realized, the challenge of youth unemployment must be efficiently addressed.
An effective response demands the engagement of all sectors of the nation must
contribute to eradicate youth unemployment issues. The researcher proposal for this
issue youth-led response with the conviction that, local solutions can positively
contribute to surmount the unemployment issues and create youth entrepreneurships.
In this research paper, how youth unemployment affects an individual, local
community, town and nation by considering many dimensions are discussed.
Furthermore, the future efforts must be taken by key stake holders such as government,
private and youth entrepreneurs are clearly explained. The youth unemployment
problem identification, reasons for unemployment, employment creation, youth
entrepreneurship, stake holder's contribution, suggestions to tackle unemployment
problem (Youth let Action Plans) are extensively explained.
A survey was conducted among the youth in various age categories in Ampara
district by focusing many aspects and this survey definitely a positive real analysis in
the current situation. Further, this survey would be a role model to surmount the youth
unemployment problem in other districts in Sri Lanka and other similar country
a critical review of educational challenges and opportunities
Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) acts as a significant tool in
achieving vital goals in education sector. The
development of ICT is a major objective
under Sri Lanka’s development vision of
becoming the "Emerging Wonder of Asia" as
outlined in the Mahinda Chintana 2010 –
vision for the future. The research objectives
are to explore (1) the importance of the ICT
curriculum for the government schools in Sri
Lanka (2) find the educational challenges
and opportunities for ICT education in Sri
Lanka. This research is primarily qualitative
in nature, where the survey conducted based
on the analysis of previous research papers,
extensive literature surveys, previous survey
reports and government publications on the
above context. The importance of ICT
curriculum in government school analyzed
and presented using Bennett’s Hierarchy 7
steps model such as Inputs, Activities,
Participants, Reactions of participants,
Changes in knowledge, Practice change, End
results. Lack of computer laboratory and cost
of devices, lack of qualified ICT teachers,
less motivation towards ICT among school
children, require more funds for the
implementation and maintenance of
computer laboratories, inadequate
knowledge in English (language barrier), ICT
is not a major subject in the school
curriculum, no National Level Certification
for ICT for students were identified as a
challenges and rising demand for the ICT
sector career, high literacy rate of the
citizens, properly established and scattered
schools provide easy access to the school
community, public – private sector
partnership, government and INGOs projects
were identified as opportunities for the ICT
implementation
Introducing information and communication technology (ICT) in Government Schools: educational challenges and opportunities (special reference to Ampara District)
ICT is an increasingly powerful tool for participating in global markets,
promoting political accountability, improving the delivery of basic
services and enhancing local development opportunities. In Sri Lanka,
Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) is the
single apex body which involves in ICT policy and direction for the
nation. This research paper aims at assessing ICT usages in Government
schools which have high impact on the education sector. It is important
to discuss the ICT in the educational sector with the key issues and
implementation bottlenecks in country like Sri Lanka. Primary Sampling
Units (PSU) are Government schools. Secondary Sampling Units (SSU)
are school principals and ICT teachers. This study is a complete survey
which covers all government schools in Ampara District. Data were
collected by primary source using questionnaire. Secondary data were
also collected from Census Report. Descriptive statistics, correlations
and regression analysis techniques were used to analysis the data.
Assessing ICT usages in Government school is inevitable especially in
Eastern Province. This research assesses ICT usages and its
implementation bottlenecks and its related issues. Lack of computer lab,
lack of ICT teachers, cost of computers and components, less motivation
towards ICT, lack of IT & English literacy and lack of Internet
connectivity were identified as the primary bottlenecks. Identified
typical issues were related to ICT implementation. Possible suggestions
were also put forward to the relevant Government bodies for their future
implementation
